Parts Cleaning Work Holding

Baskets, fixtures for parts cleaning for specialised work holding.

Pero systems are designed to handle a broad range of work holding, and here at Kumi Solutions we specialise in parts cleaning work holding systems from Metallform, Kogel and Schaefer.  Pero’s bespoke designed and manufactured work holding also plays an important part in ensuring you have a secure parts cleaning process.  Kumi Solutions also has cost effective special work holding  manufactured here in the UK by specialist basket manufacturer’s.

Parts cleaning work holding can have a direct impact on the effectiveness of parts cleaning; and therefore, it should be carefully considered when looking at replacing existing work holding or as part of a new parts cleaning program.

The main areas to consider when specifying new parts cleaning work holding are: 2010 open house parts cleaning at Kumi Solutions

  1. The type of contamination, stringy swarf or difficult to remove pastes to oils, waxes, greases etc.
  2. Part geometry will play a significant roll in the final design of parts cleaning work holding.
  3. The quantity of product to be cleaned per load
  4. Whether metal to metal contact is allowed
  5. The use of ultrasonic cleaning and its purpose (take me to ultrasonic degreasing and its uses)
  6. What material is being cleaned
  7. The program to be used
  8. The level of cleanliness required
  9. The cleaning medium used

For example, high volume aluminium parts with stringy bits of swarf require an open basket structure, rotation and repeated flooding.  This is because aluminium swarf has a habit of floating on the surface of  higher density solvents such a chlorinated solvents.  Flooding combined with rotation helps to remove these longer pieces of swarf and can be regarded as a pre- parts cleaning operation.  Once removed, parts cleaning can resume a more normal approach – rinsing, vapour degreasing and vacuum drying.

When carried out in a Pero R1 machine like those in our showroom, a full basket of parts can typically be cleaned in around 4-5 minutes.
In many cases a regular wire mesh basket will be more than adequate for good quality cleaning in a Pero machine.  Specialist parts cleaning work holding is most commonly required when metal to metal contact is not allowed, as in our aerospace and medical parts cleaning applications.
