Known also as perc or tetrachloroethylene, Perchloroethylene is a clear, colourless liquid with a distinctive, somewhat ether-like smells. It is non flammable, having no measurable flashpoint or flammable limits in air.  Effective over a wide range of applications including as a parts cleaning solvent, Perchloroethylene is supported by closed loop transfer systems, stabilizers and employee exposure monitoring.

DOWCLENE™ cleaning fluids are speciality formulations based on modified alcohols. These products are clear-coloured liquids with a mild odour. They are surfactant-free and therefore dry
(evaporate) completely clean and residue-free. DOWCLENE cleaning fluids are non-corrosive and chemically and thermally stable. This family of cleaning products consists of the DOWCLENE 16 Series (supplied in the SAFE-TAINER™ system; a closed-loop solvent delivery system).

DOWCLENE 1601 parts cleaning solvent – Removal of grease and oil, emulsion residues, polishing and lapping pastes, and fingerprints. Also used on small parts, sintered metals, ballpoint pen tips, lapped parts, aluminium cases, heat exchangers, optical lenses, and jewellery.

In January 2012 Rolls Royce issued an NTS (Notice To Suppliers) approving DOWCLENE 1601 for use on all metals.

“Rolls-Royce has approved the Dowclene 1601 solvent as an alternative to trichloroethylene for vapour degreasing only. It is supplied by the Dow Chemical Company Europe GmbH and the subsidiary company Safechem Europe GmbH. Dowclene 1601 is an alkoxypropanol chemical and meets the requirements of the Rolls-Royce specification CSS 342”.

Methylene Chloride, also known as dichloromethane and Methylene Dichloride, is a clear, colourless, volatile liquid with a mild ethereal odour that is completely miscible with a variety of solvents.

Methylene Chloride is non-flammable, having no flash point as determined by standard test methods. Unlike 1,1,1-trichloroethane, Methylene Chloride does not deplete stratospheric ozone. And when handled properly, Methylene Chloride poses no danger to health or the environment and is a good quality parts cleaning solvent.
